Funding Opportunities
What is ARPA?
The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) was signed into law on March 11, 2021, by President Joe Biden. It provided $350 billion to eligible state, local, territorial, and tribal governments to aid equitable public health and economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Funds will be distributed through the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund (CLFRF).Featured Projects
Kent County was awarded more than $127 million in ARPA funding. These funds provide us a rare opportunity to make strategic long-term investments, both within the County organization and throughout our county as a region.
Knapp’s Corner Drain Project
Thanks to ARPA funding, the drain project will be upgraded to pump the storm water runoff into a secondary detention basin that has an outlet. The water will then slowly soak into the ground and contaminants will be filtered out through the soil before water is released into the Grand River.
Broadband Initiative Consultant Support
A consultant will complete an analysis of access to broadband countywide and provide best practices and recommendations for broadband installation projects, models for partnering with local units and providers to fund projects and monitoring evolving broadband technology.
Restaurant License Fee Waiver
Approximately $1.2 million in ARPA funds will be used to waive licensing fees for all Kent County restaurants in 2022-23. The county is home to 2,372 licensed food establishments. Fees average about $500 and are determined by classification, size and type of operation.
